Preceptor’s Evening. A yearly social lodge event.

Having attended two Preceptor’s evenings (2011/12) since I became a member, I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed both evenings. Preceptor’s evenings are a yearly lodge social event. Wives, family and guests of members are invited to attend and the event takes place in December each year.
The evening starts with a meeting and a demonstration, usually this is a degree demonstration followed by a lecture about various aspects of Freemasonry. The lecture is very interesting and on both occasions I have learned something new about buildings and Masonic history. After the meeting is concluded a Christmas meal is served. Everyone has the opportunity to talk and make new friends. When the meal has finished and various toasts, raffles are completed, Christmas carols are sung and this really does get you into the ‘spirit’ of Christmas.
During the evening, my wife also had the opportunity, on both occasions, to visit the room where we meet and was given an explanation of the meeting room and all of its furniture. She also talked to various lodge members and their wives during the evening, remarking frequently how friendly they all were.

Preceptor’s evenings really do ‘start my Christmas’ as they are usually organised for the first week in December each year. They are very popular and sometimes have over seventy people in attendance. My wife and I will definitely be attending again this year..............Which reminds me, I also need to book our places this year well in advance, to avoid disappointment.
